The driving force behind the formation of the Respiratory Care Foundation of Texas was the Bill Brown Memorial Educational Grant Fund.
Bill was a medical equipment supplier and long-time supporter of the Texas Society for Respiratory Care and educational grants for respiratory care students in Texas. In the late 70s, Bill, along with business partner, Sam McCleod, sponsored the first of what would become the Annual Park Party held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the TSRC. Through the years, the proceeds from the Park Party have helped to fund the grants awarded to respiratory care students. Following Bill's untimely passing in 1995, his wife, Carol, and Sam pledged to continue this tradition as the Bill Brown Memorial Park Party. Due to logistical and financial constraints the seventh annual Bill Brown Memorial Park Party, held in July 2002, in San Antonio was the final edition of this event.
However, other fund-raising events, including the Respiratory Care Foundation of Texas Golf Tournament and the ever-popular Armadillo Races, are held each year in conjunction with the TSRC Annual Meeting. These events continue the efforts started by Bill nearly 30 years ago to provide financial assistance to deserving respiratoy care students in Texas.
