Texas Team from Collin College Wins National Sputum Bowl

Kebron Isayas, Patrick Forsythe, and Cesar Romero react at the moment of the big win. Another victory for a team that has gotten used to winning...never having lost a game at either the state competition in July in Waco at the TSRC meeting, or at the Congress in Indianapolis. A remarkable feat for competitors in any sport, let alone one with such a degree of difficulty as the National Sputum Bowl...I know, having competed myself at an AARC sputum bowl (we didn't make it to the semi-finals). This win shows the strength not only of Collin College's program but of uncompromising educational standards of Texas schools. The Lone Star state should be proud of this accomplishment.

This is not a first national win for Collin, their instructors Julie Boganwright and Angie Switzer together with Grant Pipes won 1st place in the practitioner level at the national Sputum Bowl at the Congress in Las Vegas in 2014 although this is the first national win by a Texas student team in many years, (Collin students are said to have taken the gold in the early 90's under the Direction of Terry Gilmore and Steve Dewees).

Collin had two teams compete in the AARC's Sputum bowl, their second team made up of Cassie Morris, Alexis Matthew, and Cindy Zhang made it to the second day of competition...no small feat.

Whether competing in the Sputum Bowl or making a positive impact on patients in DFW, I'm sure these students are destined for great things. I, for one, would like to join everyone in saying "great job!"
